Call for Expressions of Interest to join new NDIS Reference Group at CoMHWA

Are you an NDIS participant with psychosocial disability who would like to have a say about NDIS issues, policy, and proposed changes?

Consumers of Mental Health WA (CoMHWA) is pleased to announce that it is forming a new advisory group to help inform our policy positions on the NDIS. The group will inform our understanding of and systemic advocacy around issues facing consumers with psychosocial disability who access, or would like to access, the NDIS. Following the release of the final report of the NDIS Review in 2023, which notes specific reforms needed to better support people with psychosocial disability, and recent proposed changes to the NDIS, there is a strong need for participants to have their say about how changes and reform will affect them.

About the group:

We are seeking expressions of interest to join our new NDIS Reference Group from people with psychosocial disability who:

  • are NDIS participants with psychosocial disability listed as their primary disability; or,
  • have experiences of applying for NDIS for psychosocial disability as a primary disability, whose applications were either successful or unsuccessful.

The NDIS Reference Group is planned to consist of up to 12 members and will be facilitated by CoMHWA staff from the systemic advocacy team. Members of the NDIS Reference Group will meet for 1.5 hours, once every month, with an agenda agreed upon at least a week prior to the meeting. Members of the NDIS Reference Group will meet once every month, with an agenda agreed upon at least a week prior to the meeting. Meetings will be 1.5 hours long, and members will be paid for 2.5 hours of their time (at $37.50 per hour) to account for reading and preparation time. The initial terms of reference and group agreement will be developed as a priority upon the first meeting, so that those joining this group have a say about the expectations of membership.

To register your interest, you can complete the form by following the link here where we will ask you some questions to get a sense of your advocacy experience and knowledge of the NDIS.

This expression of interest opportunity closes by 5pm AWST on Monday 12th August.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss your intention to apply, please contact Dr Melissa Russell, Senior Policy and Research Officer at CoMHWA at mrussell@comhwa.org.au
