NAIDOC week 2025

NAIDOC week 2025

NAIDOC week begins soon, running from the 6th of July to the 13th of July 2025. 2025 marks the 50th year of NAIDOC week. This year, we celebrate not just a milestone, but the ongoing growth and evolution of NAIDOC, driven by strong communities and the enduring legacy that will shape the future. This year’s theme is The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy, which honours the past and looks forward with hope to the next generation to carry NAIDOC forward. It “celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.” NAIDOC started as a movement for recognition and rights, aiming for justice and equality for Indigenous people. Over the years, it has grown into a national celebration, showing the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The National NAIDOC week poster for 2025 addresses this theme, featuring the artwork “Ancestral Lines” by Ngarbal/Gomeroi artist Jeremy Morgan Worrall, who explains it is a “visual representation of the lines and ties that follow a generation and the songs that come with it.”

Some of us at CoMHWA will be getting involved in some events near our offices:

  • On Monday the 7th of July, the City of Belmont is having its NAIDOC Week Flag raising and first nations Strategy Launch. CoMHWA staff will be there!
  • On Wednesday the 9th of July, Jacaranda Centre’s NAIDOC family day is running from 11am-3pm. CoMHWA is having a stall there, so come and say hi if you attend!

There are many amazing events on across the week if you would like to get involved, too. Here is a small selection of them:

There will be further celebrations in Perth in September with the NAIDOC Perth Opening Ceremony being organised for that month. There are lots of great options for getting involved, both outside and inside the home, such as reading about the history of NAIDOC week, which is a great way to get connected to the significance of this time.
