Message from the CoMHWA Chairperson
“Change has a considerable psychological impact on the mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better”. (King Whitney Jr)
2020 has seen many fears, and challenges for CoMHWA, but with your support we have come through magnificently. We have together, managed all the complications arising from Covid-19, and through common sense, care and commitment to the organisation and what it does, we have recognised the gaps which we have needed to fulfil.
This all makes for a stronger organisation, a stronger membership, and a stronger relationship between the two.
Our membership has grown to over 1300 members and we continue to fulfill our obligations in the community.
Our AGM was well attended, and we farewelled our chairperson Neil Hackett who has been in the hot seat for the last two years. Neil leaves big shoes to fill and I will endeavour to carry on his good work.
Shauna and her staff have worked tirelessly to ensure ‘business as usual’ over the last 11 months, particularly through the Covid-19 crisis. Often working longer hours to ensure continuous service and engagement with our members. Relocating offices did not detract from their commitment to members either, ensuring minimal disruptions in spite of telecommunication glitches. The board cannot thank Shauna and her staff enough for her leadership and their enthusiasm in all they do.
As 2021 approaches, the Board remains strong and committed to the values of CoMHWA and will continue to advocate for the voice of lived experience.
Our two newest board members – Craig Stephen and Kayla Schembri - bring strong skills and enthusiasm to add to the current members.
On behalf of all my colleagues I wish you all a very safe and healthy festive season and look forward to serving our community in 2021.
