Mental Health Starts Here - Mental Health Week 2018

By Renai SearleAs we wrap up Mental Health week I wanted to reflect on the theme; “Mental Health starts where we live, learn, work and play”. As the project coordinator for the My Medicines & Me project and with my own lived experience, I can’t help but think that these things are often impacted by the side-effects we experience.Medication is a useful tool to live (learn, work and play) well. However, when the side-effects impact our wellbeing and we struggle to find the right support, we are often unable to meet you at the starting line of mental health. #MentalHealthStartsHere is the 2018 Mental Health Week hashtag. and CoMHWA’s My Medicines & Me project aims to ensure those struggling to express the effects of their medications are able to speak up and seek helpful support. We also provide families, carers, support services and the community with valuable information and skills to bring the start line to those struggling with the effects of medication.

The My Medicines & Me Questionnaire (M3Q) was designed to help people talk to their doctors about the side-effects of mental health medications. CoMHWA’s My Medicines & Me project aims to build the skills, confidence and knowledge of people to more effectively manage their mental health medications.
