June at CoMHWA
What's been happening so far in June?
We have a work placement student!CoMHWA welcomes Juliet; a Masters of Social Work student on work placement. We’re lucky to have Juliet for the next twelve weeks where she will be assisting us with many projects, mainly the OurVoice4Change project. Juliet has a background in Digital Media and now is working towards a career in Social Work. Some of the interesting activities Juliet has been involved in prior to coming to CoMHWA include sourcing funding for food and clothing for a Community Project, as well as producing podcasts videos of Youth for a Youth Community Project. We’re looking forward to having you in the office! We shared stories for Mens Health Week 2017!In light of Men’s Health Week 2017, CoMHWA has been sharing relevant articles, events and useful tools on social media. As part of our contribution to Men’s Health Week, we have released two lived experience stories from Blake and Jason, telling their inspiring recovery stories. These are available to read on the OurVoice4Change page. We've told members about Peer2Peer!CoMHWA is pleased to tell our members about our new peer-led program. ‘Peer2Peer’ is a peer delivered and evaluated hospital to home project, being delivered in collaboration with Mental Illness Fellowship of WA (MIFWA), St John of God Hospital Midland (SJOG), and the WA Primary Health Alliance. The project is the first community-based, peer led hospital diversion program in Western Australia that incorporates an in-reach approach. It involves peer support for individuals returning home after a stay at SJOG Hospital Midland, including practical supports, building capacity around decision making and GP/community engagement. People are referred to Peer2Peer through SJOG Hospital. CoMHWA is also in the process of developing training for individuals on supported decision making and how to get the most out of GP appointments.
