CoMHWA Calls for Removal of Suicide Video
Consumers of Mental Health WA Calls for Removal of Suicide Video
CoMHWA has called on the support of Acting Premier and Minister for Mental Health Roger Cook for the urgent removal of a video in which a woman graphically suicides over and over again. The video is being exhibited at the Fremantle Arts Centre. Please click to read our Media Release and Letter to the Acting Premier.CoMHWA wrote to the artist, Georgie Roxby Smith to acknowledge the importance of sexualisation, violence and stereotypes of female characters in video games. However, given the potential of this art piece to heighten suicide risks among people vulnerable to this issue, we requested that the video be taken down from the website. The video has since been removed. If you are struggling or need someone to talk to about any issues that may arise from this content, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
