9 Days Left to Make an Informed Decision about My Health Record

“Do I want a My Health Record?”Read our guide on the benefits and risks of an online My Health Record and make an informed choiceIn response to concerns raised about My Health Record, CoMHWA formed a consortia of state and national organisations. A joint letter called for the Minister for Health Hon Greg Hunt to suspend the opt out period until the Government made necessary changes and public confidence in the important reform was restored. The findings of a Senate Inquiry into My Health Record reflected the recommendations of CoMHWA’s submission to the Senate Inquiry. Unfortunately, Greg Hunt has failed to adopt the Inquiry’s recommendations beyond extending the opt out period for a month.Significant concerns remain for; people with mental health issues, remote and rural communities, young people, the ageing population and those in vulnerable situations. The consortia co-signed a letter to Minister Hunt calling for an immediate commitment to implement the recommendations of the Inquiry, including deferring the opt out period.

CoMHWA urges our members to make an informed decision before the opt out period ends, next Thursday 15th November. You can register for a My Health Record at any time after you have opted out. You are not able to opt out after next week.

Thank you for the support of the members of the consortia: the Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council (VMIAC), Being NSW, the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH), People With disabilities WA (PWdWA), Ethnic Disabilities Advocacy Centre (EDAC), Youth Affairs Council of WA (YACWA), Health Consumers Council, WA (HCC WA), North Metro Health Service Youth Mental Health and the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria (YACVIC).Thank you to Catherine King, Shadow Minister for Health for her support of the consortia and for her ongoing work to delay the rollout.
